Pŏpsa has been practicing daily meditation for more than twenty
years. Additionally,
Sensei Frank McGouirk, 6th Dan Frank McGouirk was promoted to
first-dan in 1965 by Koichi Tohei Sensei, Chief Instructor of
Hombu Dojo, at Aikido of South San Francisco. Notable fellow classmates
included Senseis Bob Nadeau, Ed Baker and Frank Doran. McGouirk
founded Aikido-Ai of Southern California in 1981. He received
Taiji certification from Grand Master Sifu Y. M. Cheng in 1981.
He co-founded the Aikido Ai Zen Center with Zen Master Robert
Moore in 1983 and currently is the center's Abbot and Dharma teacher.
McGouirk studied Qigong at Huaxia Zhineng Hospital in the City
of Fengrun just south of Bejing. He received Qigong certification
in 1998 from Qigong Master Luke Chan. McGouirk has hosted the
Mt. Baldy Zen Center Aikido-Ai Memorial weekend retreat for the
past 20 years.
In addition
to teaching full-time at the Aikido-Ai Dojo in Whittier, California,
he is also pleased to be associated with his teacher, Frank Doran,
and proud of his son, Bill McGouirk, 4th Dan, who is also Doran's
student.
